Walk the Line

I hate Sundays, they are so bleh.  I woke up, had breakfast, and turned on the TV, FX to be exact, and the movie Walk the Line was on (yay not such a bad sunday after all).

The movie came out in 2005 with Joaquin Phoenix playing Johnny Cash and Reese Witherspoon playing June Carter.  The movie covers 15 years of Johnny Cash’s life; it starts when he is a little kid and witnesses the tragic death of his brother and ends when June finally agrees to marry him.

This is a favorite movie of mine, it is a genius mixture of music and plot.  Like other movies, the music often makes the audience to loose focus on the drama, but in Walk the Line, the music is played from the musician’s point of view and the songs go hand in hand with the emotions the characters are going through.  Although Johnny Cash is married and has kids, and June goes through different marriages with kids as well, they have an undeniable chemistry and affection for each other.  They tour together and are a great duo with one of my persoanl favorites, “It Ain’t Me Babe.”

Johnny struggles with drug abuse, passing out while in concert, and family problems, the ongoing tension between himself and his father.

June struggles with Johnny’s wife because their love for each other is a forbidden love.  It’s a great movie; it has music and romance what a wonderful combination!  Of course the fact that Joaquin Phoenix is extremely attractive is a little cherry on top.
