May 27th, 2010 by vivi

Have you met or are you the kind of person who isn’t grateful for what they have and only sees what you don’t have? Well if you are you should really read this book it might get you into perspective.

This book is about an eleven year old boy named Sam Mc Queen who loves to collect stories and fantastic facts and suffers from leukemia. He is determined to one day become a famous scientist and break the world records side by side with his best friend Felix Stranger who also suffers from cancer. When I finished reading this book I was so moved. Everything that these two boys had to go through. And even how they first met was touching.

I really recommend this book to everyone!

Is It Really Worth It?

Many people who give into using marijuana are clueless of the harmful effects it has. Although it can be prescribed due to medical issues, other types of marijuana can be hazardous.

The short term effects include:

  • Distorted perception
  • Trouble with problem solving
  • Memory Loss
  • Increased anxiety
  • Dry mouth and throat

Someone who smoke 5 joints per week is taking in chemicals that is equivalent to smoking a pack of cigarettes in one day. Marijuana also contains cancer causing chemicals that are similar to those found in cigarettes.

Before someone gives into peer pressure, they should really be aware of the dangers drugs can cause.

Teen Drinking gets out of hand.
Apr 19th, 2010 by evelyn44

As teenagers grow into full grown adults, there seems so be an issue that is increasing at an alarming rate and that happens to be the excess consumption of alcohol. Many teenagers tend to do it because they want to have a “good time”,” forget about problems”, to “party- hardy” or basically just to “go with the flow”

Teenagers don’t really think of the long term effects that it can have on them. All some think about is just having a very good time. I insist that teenagers/high school students have to realize that they can have a good time at a party without drinking. Some questions that can come to mind before drinking and having second thoughts about it can be:

“Do I really need to be buzzed/drunk to have a good time? Does this mean that I’m not fun being sober?

Can this be an issue I may have?

All I’m saying is that, if you find yourself drinking, or drinking too much you have to realize what effects that may have upon you. Think of the future, don’t mess up your present & you’re future. Bad things can happen when drunk that you may regret.

And if you don’t know if alcohol is getting out of hand you can ask yourself these other questions!

  1. Do you sometimes drink more than you mean to?
  2. Have you tried to cut back on your drinking and failed?
  3. Do you black-out (have trouble remembering things that happened) while drinking?
  4. Have your problems at school, work or with your relationships gotten worse since you started drinking?
  5. Do you keep drinking even though you know it’s causing problems?
  6. Do you drink when you feel stressed?
  7. Do you drink alone?
  8. Can you drink much more now than you used to be able to?
  9. Do you ever feel uncomfortable when you haven’t had a drink?
  10. Do you drink even when it’s important to stay sober?

Criminal Minds is a show that basically is about discovering mystery cases that are really tricky. This team retrases the incident and try to figure out who and how the criminals were able to succeed with his/her plan of murder.

Every agent has a particular job in each case they all are important to the team they are almost like a family even.  Most people that see the show mostly only see it to look ans check out agent Morgan. He’s the hot bad boy in the show.

I recommend this show to everyone because it is extremely interesting. The show makes you think about how far some psycho is willing to go to see someone else end or misery.

Chess
Feb 1st, 2010 by Flyboy

Lately a couple of my friends and I have been playing chess. Me and Gabriel Ceja started playing chess on December, 2009 no actually we started playing chess during Gertner’s Journalism class. We would play on the MacBooks that are available  for his Journalism class, which I was in. Gabriel wasn’t in the class he had study hall so he would come over and grab a laptop and started to play chess. First we would play against the computer which was impossible to beat because the setting were set for chess professional players. Eventually we want to determine who was a better player. So that’s when we officially started playing because we were playing on an homemade chess board with different chess pieces not on a laptop. After that it came to my mind to create a chess club. After the winter break Gabriel showed to school with a new chess  board, which he had receive for christmas. Now that we have a chess b oard that would remain steady and all the pieces are the same. I created a chess tournament. That’s what has been happening with my friends and I.
