It’s just a few weeks before our school year ends. Yes, finally! But what’s going to happen with all the seniors that are graduating this year and going out of state or just hours away for college? Are the friendships still going to be as strong as how they were in their little school groups?
My friends and I are not going far away from home, which means we are still going to be able to hang out on weekends and kick it once in a while.
CSUN, CALStateLA,UCLA, and Fresno State will be the colleges accepting many of the graduating seniors!
Hopefully its a new experience for all seniors. Good luck to all and hope to see you at class reunions!!!
I grew up with one of my favorite cousins. She was older then me by 3 years. She and I would do everything together. She was like the oldest sister I would have asked for, and also my best friend.
Every time our family would get together i remember i would have this jolly face on me, because i would not see her as often as i would want too. She lived in south central and i lived here in Boyle heights. As time went by she started maturing and left her childhood. We would talk, but not as much like before.
Once she turned 18 she decided that college wasn’t really her thing. She knew that if she went to college that she would not have made it, so she decided to make a HUGE decision and join the Army. She believed that joining the Army would be easier for her to get her career straight and be more independent for herself. But as others believed she was risking her life in joining, a lot of our family tried to convince her against it, but she wouldn’t listen. She had her mind set already.
As for me i was really sad to hear that she was joining the army=, but the other part of me was really happy that she was making a right choice for herself. I look up to her and I really want to join the Army, but I’m scared to go to war if i am chosen to go. My cousin and i don’t really see each other anymore. We hardly talk now that she’s in Colorado station.
Our family still gathers together but it’[s sad to see she’s not there to join us as before. Maybe she won’t be joining us for a while since she might be sent to Iraq in August. As time goes by i think about it and i wonder to myself, if she could change anything would she?
After being in Roosevelt for 4 years, I realized that now senior year is close to coming to its end and I still can’t believe it.
I can honestly say that i’m scared and at the same time excited about going out to college. I remember walking into Roosevelt as a dumb little freshman who wanted to go back home right as soon as I walked through the door.
I thought high school was going to be like all the older kids punking on the little ones but little did I know that this wasn’t the occasion. Everybody seemed to be in their own world, with their own friends and everybody minding their own business.
My Sophomore and Junior years went exactly how I thought they would go. I made great friends who I know I can always count on, but yet again I also made some friends who ended up just being backstabbers, trash talkers and just plain rude people. Those people are no longer part of my life! After 9 months of being in school, it just hit me that I only have like 2 months left of school then im off to college into a new world all by myself .
Fresno State will be the college I will be attending, and although it’s going to be a way different school, I am really looking forward to going.

Hey all you future college students! I hope you had a relaxing winter break and are ready for the next step in the college application process. You finished all the actual applications, and you’re probably starting to hear from some schools. Now you need to think about how you’re going to pay for your higher education.
As of January 1, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is available for you to fill out and submit online. The deadline is March 2, but I recommend that you do it this month, because the FAFSA is required for most grants, loans and scholarships.
A great source for scholarships is Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard’s list. You can download it here.
I’ll post more info about financial aid and scholarship opportunities as I hear about them. Don’t wait! The sooner you start, the more free money you will get.
Please Note: This scholarship is sponsored by C.O.R.E.
C.O.R.E. is a non-partisan, research and advocacy organization that aims to improve the educational environment of all Chicano/Latino students.

November 30 was the deadline for UC applications. Today in the morning I heard many of my fellow students panicking about not being able to submit their applications. Then a wave of relief rippled through school when it was announced that the deadline wold be extended until December 2.
I was really surprised to hear this, and many teachers and administrators had never heard of the UC system doing something like this. While many were relieved, others were bit perturbed. Many said that it wast fair that they spend their time making sure their application was submitted on time. Teachers had warned students and encouraged them to submit their applications before Thanksgiving. Still, it is clear that many procrastinated and the website was incredibly busy.
So I will leave you to decide whether this decision was fair or not. Years ago, people had the choice of sending their applications through mail or through the web. Now however it’s required that they are sent through the internet. With that said, since UCs require internet applications, perhaps they should have been more responsible in assuring there would be no problems. Then again, is this fair to those students who sacrificed to spend time making sure their applications were submitted on time? I’m curious on your thoughts.

Throughout the years more and more people wasnt to attend to college. But as the number of people attending college increases so do the college tuition fees. As the years pass, the more money the families are going to have to pay for their kids going to college. uncompred to last year, this year on average these families will have to pay from $108-1,398 more on tuitions fee, all depending on what college the student wants to attend. Some of us students that will soon be leaving to collge will apply for financial aid. Financial Aid is money given to the students to help pay for their college expenses. This year there is more than $140 million on financial aid. That’s alot of help!!! Overall, we have some expenses to think about when planning to attend college. We have to be smart about our future and strat appliying for student grants, scholarships and Financial Aid which will help us get through college with less stress.
