a thousand splendid suns
May 27th, 2010 by vivi

either one

A thousand Splendid suns is about the people that live and survive their lives in third world countries during war time. They see many gruesome things that scars them and follows them until adulthood. In this book you realize about all the horrible suffering women go through in their daily lives. Over there it is so normal for women to be treated in such inhuman manners by their husbands and other men.

I really recommend this book because it opens your eyes to so may things that i never thought possible. It makes you really appreciate life as we know it and everything in this country that protects women’s rights.

When do we know we are ready?
May 25th, 2010 by nais12

It’s just a few weeks before our school year ends. Yes, finally! But what’s going to happen with all the seniors that are graduating this year and going out of state or just hours away for college? Are the friendships still going to be as strong as how they were in their little school groups?

My friends and I are not going far away from home, which means we are still going to be able to hang out on weekends and kick it once in a while.

CSUN, CALStateLA,UCLA, and Fresno State will be the colleges accepting many of the graduating seniors!

Hopefully its a new experience for all seniors. Good luck to all and hope to see you at class reunions!!!

My Own Kind of Culture
Apr 20th, 2010 by nais12

Every culture breaks down into many categories all depending on what they people believe in, where these people live, what music they listen to, etc. My culture on the other hand, consists of these categories and many others. One important thing about my culture is the religion. I am catholic and all my family is catholic. I know that by saying this in just going to start with stereotype, but most Mexicans do believe in the Catholic Church, but yet again that’s just my opinion. Folklore is an old tradition in my family culture; this is a tradition that has passed from generations to generations. In my family, these stories told are about experiences that our ancestors, great grandparents, grandparents and even parents have lived through. This is what makes our folklore unique compared to others.

Food also makes big part of my culture. I’m used to eating Mexican food, and all my family likes to eat Mexican food, but now that we live in the United States, born and raised here too, we become familiar with the American culture, but we can’t forget that we have our Mexican culture too and this is where both these culture combine and new things evolve. “Spanglish” is a term that many of us now use. This is a combination of both Spanish and English. We can tell how both these culture kind of just crashed together into one.

Values are very important to be considered in with the culture I grew up in. My parents grew up hearing all the time that they had to stay “virgins” till the time they married, now that they have us their kids, we grew up hearing that again and again. I believe this is an important value because parents always want what’s best for their kids and so values just like stories pass down from generation to generation. Music sets apart my culture from many other students here. I like listening to Spanish music like “corridos” in which they talk about drug trafficking and the main heads of these drug dealers. These songs teach us a lot about the things happening today in our Mexican society. They talk about the thousands of people killed yearly all due to drug problems. Each song I hear has a different message and a message in which I can learn from it. Colima is where my family is from, and in this Mexican state we can now see more drug related problems. I relate these songs to my culture because well it’s our values that are out to the test. It is whether we get involved or not. My family thinks that getting involved with this kind of people is very wrong and we grow up listening to these things. So once we are grown and we know more about the consequences our values are put to the test.

Now, in my generation there are many things about my culture that have changed, now we have twitter, MySpace, Face book etc. to help us communicate with other people but yet, there are still parents who are so “old fashioned” that think that this is just dumb, but I mean now in our culture many things has changed and peoples beliefs start to change because we live in a society that makes us believe these kinds of things. Later then is when we start to bring all these new stuff into our culture. So yes my parents brought me into a culture I love, but little by little that same culture is evolving into  another culture in which we get to choose what our real culture is all about.

Every culture is different. How do you make yours different from the rest?

Vampire Kisses the series: # 3 Vampire Ville
Mar 8th, 2010 by Gizel

Vampire Ville is the third book of the series of Vampire Kisses.

When i starting reading the series of  Vampire Kisses i couldn’t stop. It was like i was hooked. The story keeps getting better and better every time you go to the following book. These books have a little bit of everything: love, romance, adventure, suspense and most of all… drama. I really recommend the Vampire Kisses series. They are so interesting you just want to finish the book to go to the next one.

In Vampire Ville, the third book of the series, it goes a little deeper with Alexander’s underworld and why he left Romania. Alexander was forced to marry someone he didn’t love and turn his bride to a vampire for eternity.

Raven and Alexander’s relationship gets more personality when she meets the twins named Jagger and Luna Maxwell.

Jagger was born in the underworld but his twin sister wasn’t. Alexander was supposed to marry Luna and turn her into a vampire for eternity. Jagger and Luna come from Romania to pay a little visit to Alexander. The twins get very aggravated when they find out that he has a girlfriend named Raven.

What Raven doesn’t know is that Luna would do anything to get Alexander back in her hands.

Criminal Minds is a show that basically is about discovering mystery cases that are really tricky. This team retrases the incident and try to figure out who and how the criminals were able to succeed with his/her plan of murder.

Every agent has a particular job in each case they all are important to the team they are almost like a family even.  Most people that see the show mostly only see it to look ans check out agent Morgan. He’s the hot bad boy in the show.

I recommend this show to everyone because it is extremely interesting. The show makes you think about how far some psycho is willing to go to see someone else end or misery.

Vampire Kisses
Mar 2nd, 2010 by Gizel

Have you ever read any books by Ellen Schreiber?  She writes amazing stories that you might be interested in.

She writes interesting books that always get you reading and you don’t want to put the book down. The first book I starting reading from Ellen was very interesting to me. I really enjoyed reading it and I finished the book in two to three days.

The book is called Vampire Kisses. I couldn’t put the book down. This book is about a sixteen-year old girl named Raven Madison. She is really obsessed with the dark side and always has been.

When she was in  kindergarten she told her teacher she wanted to be a vampire when she grows up. She is the type of girl nobody seems to like because she is different from everybody else at school.

She only has one friend named Becky, whom nobody seems to notice except for Raven. Becky and Raven are best friends, but yet they are so different from each other. For example: Becky is a quiet girl and Raven is that type of girl that if you tell her she can’t do it then she will do it to prove you wrong.

Raven is very outspoken and does what she wants to do no matter what. They have been friends since kindergarten.

I highly recommend it if you are interested in the book. Trust me the story keeps getting better and better.

Ellen Schreiber has seven series of Vampire Kisses: Vampire Kisses, Kissing Coffins, Vampire Ville, Dance with a Vampire, The Coffin Club, Royal Blood and the seventh book will come out on May the 18,2010.

Black And White
Feb 3rd, 2010 by 323lui24

Black and White it does sound somewhat wrong, but in reality it’s a title of this book.

This book I would recommend to all those people who are really close to your friends. When i first read this book back in tenth grade I didn’t really find the theme to it, but now as a SENIOR I read it again and the book makes a lot of sense now.

When you grow up with someone you grow up knowing them pretty well and you support everything they say or want to do.

I won’t get so into the point because it would be better if you read it. It could relate a lot to the type of friendship you have or something you would want to ignore.

It’s one of my favorite books.
