a thousand splendid suns
May 27th, 2010 by vivi

either one

A thousand Splendid suns is about the people that live and survive their lives in third world countries during war time. They see many gruesome things that scars them and follows them until adulthood. In this book you realize about all the horrible suffering women go through in their daily lives. Over there it is so normal for women to be treated in such inhuman manners by their husbands and other men.

I really recommend this book because it opens your eyes to so may things that i never thought possible. It makes you really appreciate life as we know it and everything in this country that protects women’s rights.

Ways to Live Forever

Have you met or are you the kind of person who isn’t grateful for what they have and only sees what you don’t have? Well if you are you should really read this book it might get you into perspective.

This book is about an eleven year old boy named Sam Mc Queen who loves to collect stories and fantastic facts and suffers from leukemia. He is determined to one day become a famous scientist and break the world records side by side with his best friend Felix Stranger who also suffers from cancer. When I finished reading this book I was so moved. Everything that these two boys had to go through. And even how they first met was touching.

I really recommend this book to everyone!

When do we know we are ready?
May 25th, 2010 by nais12

It’s just a few weeks before our school year ends. Yes, finally! But what’s going to happen with all the seniors that are graduating this year and going out of state or just hours away for college? Are the friendships still going to be as strong as how they were in their little school groups?

My friends and I are not going far away from home, which means we are still going to be able to hang out on weekends and kick it once in a while.

CSUN, CALStateLA,UCLA, and Fresno State will be the colleges accepting many of the graduating seniors!

Hopefully its a new experience for all seniors. Good luck to all and hope to see you at class reunions!!!

Forever farewell?
May 23rd, 2010 by Julith

I grew up with one of my favorite cousins. She was older then me by 3 years. She and I would do everything together. She was like the oldest sister I would have asked for, and also my best friend.

Every time our family would get together i remember i would have this jolly face on me, because i would not see her as often as i would want too. She lived in south central and i lived here in Boyle heights. As time went by she started maturing and left her childhood. We would talk, but not as much like before.

Once she turned 18 she decided that college wasn’t really her thing. She knew that if she went to college that she would not have made it, so she decided to make a HUGE decision and join the Army. She believed that joining the Army would be easier for her to get her career straight and be more independent for herself. But as others believed she was risking her life in joining, a lot of our family tried to convince her against it, but she wouldn’t listen. She had her mind set already.

As for me i was really sad to hear that she was joining the army=, but the other part of me was really happy that she was making a right choice for herself. I look up to her and I really want to join the Army, but I’m scared  to go to war if i am chosen to go. My cousin and i don’t really see each other anymore. We hardly talk now that she’s in Colorado station.

Our family still gathers together but it’[s sad to see she’s not there to join us as before. Maybe she won’t be joining us for a while since she might be sent to Iraq in August. As time goes by i think about it and i wonder to myself, if she could change anything would she?

Senior Year Coming to an End
Apr 16th, 2010 by nais12

After being in Roosevelt for 4 years, I realized that now senior year is close to coming to its end and I still can’t believe it.

I can honestly say that i’m scared and at the same time excited about going out to college. I remember walking into Roosevelt as a dumb little freshman who wanted to go back home right as soon as I walked through the door.

I thought high school was going to be like all the older kids punking on the little ones but little did I know that this wasn’t the occasion. Everybody seemed to be in their own world, with their own friends and everybody minding their own business.

My Sophomore and Junior years went exactly how I thought they would go. I made great friends who I know I can always count on, but yet again I also made some friends who ended up just being backstabbers, trash talkers and just plain rude people. Those people are no longer part of my life! After 9 months of being in school, it just hit me that I only have like 2 months left of school then im off to college into a new world all by myself .

Fresno State will be the college I will be attending, and although it’s going to be a way different school, I am really looking forward to going.

To close friends know as Russell Tyrone Jones but for the rest of the world, we knew him as the Ol’ Dirty Bastard. One of the founders of the WU-TANG CLAN rapping crew. He had no father to his drunken style, Ol’ Dirty bastard died on november 13, 2004 just a couple of days before his 36 birthday.

On the night of his death, members from Wu-tang clan thought he was a no show again, not knowing that he accidently overdosed on cocaine and tramadol.

Pretty Little Liars
Mar 10th, 2010 by karizza

Over the winter break, my friend kept telling me about this series of books that she really liked. I sounded like I was interested, when I really wasn’t. One day, she brought me the first book in the series and told me to read it. It sat there for days until one day I finally decided to read it. When I finally started to read it, I did not want to put it down.

The series is called Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

It is about a group of five best friends who have a sleepover and suddenly, one of their friends disappears. The next morning and in the preceding weeks everyone searches for her but never find her. Three years later, her body is found in her own backyard. Throughout the series, the four remaining friends reunite to try to find her killer.

I have read the whole series so far and cannot wait for the next book. I really recommened this series. I guarantee you won’t be able to put it down.

My Good Friends!!!
Nov 30th, 2009 by nais12

Many people believe in the well known “best friends”, but I honestly believe that these so-called friends only exist in our heads. For some reason I don’t believe that best friends exist. Yes it’s true, we do have really good and close friends, but not best friends. I have some of the greatest friends that i can imagine in the world to have.

ME&&ARiANA RAriana Ramirez would be the first I mention. We met in our 9th grade year and it was in Mr. Gertner’s English class. It was just a classmate thing at first. We weren’t the greatest friend per se. But then 10th grade began and we had many more classes together, so we started talking even more. We were even hanging around together in nutrition and lunch. By the 11th grade wow, many things began to change. We became real close friends and now we are even closer than before. It’s really nice to know that I have a great friend like Ariana Ramirez. She has proven to be a great friend one I can count on.

En el school bus

There’s also Wendy Torres, another great friend I can count on. Wendy like the rest, I met back in Mr. Gertner’s English Class. It started when her twin brother Jose Torres said “Hey girl, I like your earrings.” It was funny because I really didn’t know anybody in that class. I can say it was all people from Hollenbeck and me a Belvedere student being the only one in that class was really awkward.

Like most of the other friendships we started talking because it was all related to school work. But then our 10th and 11th grade year we got even closer since we noticed that we had most of classes together. We had so much fun because we even started hanging out together and going places together. It was rally fun!! Wendy has become one of the friends I can really trust and not just that she also helps me when i have problems. she helps me find a answer to many of the questions I have. She is the most straight out person I know so if she don’t like something about you then she will tell you!!

Last but not least there is Monica Martinez. I saw her around Belvedere Middle School, but then again I didn’t talk to her. Then I had her for a class,At the pep rally with the girls ICS with Mr. Ozuna. Our friendship started off in the 10th grade. We were not the greatest friends, but hey, we talked somewhat. But then in the 11th grade, we had even more classes together, so then it’s when we started the great friendship we have today. Through out 11th grade we did have our little ups and downs, but hey that’s how friends become stronger. Now our senior year we are closer than ever. I know I can always count on her for any problems that  I need help with.

WMAAS I know I can always count on my girls with whatever problem is affecting me or whatever problem Im struggling with. I’m glad I have such a great group of friends that are with me through thick and thin.

All I can say is that these girls are the best!!!

When it comes down to needing a shoulder to cry on, a person to lean on or just a friend I know they will be here to help me!!! I love them!!!

A Friend that is Worth a Bunch
Nov 25th, 2009 by nais12

We met back in the 9th grade in Mr. Gertner’s 4th Period English class. It was really strange to be in that class. I was the only one who had gone to Belvedere Middle School. From what I later found out the rest of the class had gone to Hollenbeck Middle School. How akward was that?? Really!!

At the time we didn’t really talk it was more of talking but just for the class. The whole year went by like that. It so happened that in the 10th grade we had some classes together and that’s where we started talking more. I also started talking to her other group of friends for the fact that we kinda all had the same classes. we would talk but it was just more like a “hi” “bye” and “oh what are we doing?” kind of friendship, little did we know that in our junior year we would become really close friends.Sari and Nais

I joined her and the rest of her friends during nutrition and lunch. I had an awesome time just hanging around with them. Wow we would talk about everything!!! We would have some weird conversations, we started talking about school, then it would lead on to talking about problems or just kind of criticizing people but trust me it was in a good way!!

But these were not the only things we would talk about. We have the most random conversations you can imagine.

Now we are Seniors, Class of ’10!! Now I can really say that I found a great friend, a friend I can tell anything to. She always has the right words for me. When i ask for her help i know she will always find a way to help me. I have so much to thank her for. She encourages me a lot especially when it’s about school!! I love her and i know that she will forever be in my heart like a friend and like a sister.

Lindas AbejitasHer name is Sarai Flores. She is so intellegent, caring, funny and friendly person and I am glad she is my friend. Senior year is now here and for some reason I feel like our friendship will last a really long time. She will forever stay in my heart not only as a friend but also as one of the people who helped me through high school and who made me realize that I can really achieve my goals. I thank her for being a great friend and for always being by my side when I need her.

I love her and always will. She is my friend and like my sister!!! =)

Growing UP
Nov 24th, 2009 by 323lui24

It seems like just yesterday that I was in middle school, growing up with the homies playing basketball, or even football and sometimes soccer. They were some of the best years in my life growing up with them.

Now in our senior year it feels so good that one of my closest friends ever since middle school is making something out of his life, playing something he always loved to do, football. Giovani is also know as CareBear #68. It makes me proud that he is doing so well playing football and that he has accomplished so many things in such a short time.

It would have been even better if we could have all stayed together and played together. Sometimes life takes us on different paths but I’m glad I am able to witness the great things that he has able to accomplish and I really wish the best for him after high school.

It would be nice if he gets to the NFL; it would be a dream come true. care bear gio
