The Last Song
Mar 26th, 2010 by jackim13

I’ve never read any books by Nicholas Sparks other than The Notebook, and the movie wasn’t half bad. I watched the movie A Walk to Remember as well, but never got the chance to read the book.

I loved both movies, and they really got me into reading more books by Nicholas Sparks, so when I saw that the movie based on The Last Song, I couldn’t help going out to buy the book right away.

Now the book tells the story of Veronica “Ronnie” Miller, whose parents got divorced, turning her life completely upside down. Three years later, she’s managed to completely alienate herself from her parents, especially her father, and her mother decides it would be best to send Ronnie and her younger brother, Jonah, to stay with her father over the summer. Ronnie becomes furious and refuses to accept any attempts her father tries to reach out to her.

She never expects on finding something as confusing and painful as first love.

Now, I’m no sappy romantic, but the story told in this book is bound to hook any reader, let’s just hope the movie lives up to it, like The Notebook did.

The Wizard of Oz
Mar 26th, 2010 by nais12

So i know that this sounds all childish or whatever, but my favorite movie of all times is “The Wizard of Oz”. This movie got to me ever since the first day I saw it which was in the third grade. I think that this is the best movie ever made. But yet again this is just my opinion.

In the movie there are four main characters, Dorothy, the scarecrow, the tin man and the Lion.

So the movie starts with Dorothy at home in Kansas. She has a dog “toto”, who an evil woman wants to take away from her. Dorothy decided to run away when suddenly, a tornado starts to develop and she has to run back home to her aunt. while she’s back home the tornado strikes her house and the window hits her and she is knocked out unconscious. She starts hallucinating that she is inside the tornado(if that’s possible) and then lands in Munchkin Land. Here is where she meets the witch Glinda. Dorothy tells her that all she wants is to go home. the good witch later tells her that she needs to follow the yellow brick road which is going to take her to Emerald City where she would have to meet with the Great Oz.

Dorothy decides to go and see the Great Oz, but on the way she makes these friends who also want to go and meet with the Great Oz ad see if he can grant them a wish as well. The Scarecrow needs a brain to help others and help himself. The tin man needs a heart, so he wont be so shallow finally, the lion wants courage, since all lions are suppose to be the “brave” ones. Wile trying to get to Emerald City, these 4 new friends had to struggle with some obstacles that kept getting in the way, one of them being the wicked witch of the East. regardless of all the obstacles Dorothy and her friends didn’t give up and got to where they were going, to Emerald City. once there they asked to speak to the Great Oz.

To their surprise the Great Oz was just a man standing behind a curtain. little did they know that this “Oz” was gonna help them realize that they had he brains, the heart and the courage inside them all the time. But there was Dorothy left to get her wish and get her back home to Kansas. the Wizard told her that she had to go with him but ends up leaving her behind. so once again Glinda helps her go back home she just tells her to click her heels 3 times and say “there’s no place like home.”

Eventually she goes back home and it was all a dream she was having.

So all though this might be a kiddy movie, at the end it does help us understand that whatever we think we are missing, like the brains, the heart or the courage, we always have to look  for it within ourselves. This movie is really good. I love it !!!
