Varukers- Government s to Blame

Formed by Anthony  ”Rat” Martin “The Varukers” were apart of the second generation of punkrock other wise known as uk’82. They took the existing 1977 era punkrock on combined with distorted guitar sound , a new, harder-edged style also tended to use much darker, more nihilistic, and more violent lyrics, and vocals were often shouted rather than sung, and with a new drum beat The Varukers are famous for their D-beat sound.

Sex and the City Lives On!
May 4th, 2010 by Rubber_duckie

Sex and the City is one of my FAVORITE shows!  It was on from 1998 to 2004 and is set in New York.  The show focuses on the lives of four American women who are the best of friends who are in their mid-thirties.  These are all big-city professional women who defy the typical stereotypes of women and are part of the scene when women began to have more power, not just politically, but with men and themselves.  Though the show does revolve around sexual encounters, many mistake the show for being about ONLY that.

The show is told and portrayed in Carrie Bradshaw’s view, played by Sarah Jessica Parker.  She is essentially the narrator of each episode, and writes for her column Sex and the City in a New York Newspaper.  She has two loves throughout the show despite several boyfriends she has.  However, the one she is always entangled with is Mr. Big.

The four different women each epitomize different types of women and different ideals women value.

There is Samantha Jones who is the most promiscuous and independent businesswoman.  Charlotte York is the most optimistic and who’s the most devoted to emotional love and not lust.  Miranda Hobbes is a lawyer who is the most cynical about relationships and men.

Five years after the ending of the sitcom, there was a movie made.  In may Sex and the City 2 will be released, and yes I will be at the midnight showing.

How to train your Dragon!!

The movie How to train your Dragon is now playing in all theaters. Don’t forget catch it in 3-D. Check it out what actor or actress do the voices of the fun and crazy characters.

The film is set in a mythical world of Vikings and dragons. The story centers on a Viking teenager named Hiccup  who lives on the island of Berk, where fighting dragons is a way of life.

The teen’s smarts and offbeat sense of humor are disliked by his tribe and its chief, Hiccup’s father, Stoick the Vast.

However, when Hiccup is included in Dragon Training with the other Viking teens, including a girl, Astrid, he sees his chance to prove that he has what it takes to be a fighter.

After he entangles a dragon with a bolas-shooting cannon, Hiccup releases and befriends the dragon, whom he dubs “Toothless.”relationship flips his world upside-down as he strives to convince his tribe that they don’t need to be dragon-slayers but instead ends up angering them, causing them to lead an attack on the dragons’ home.

Julian Casablancas
Mar 10th, 2010 by Flyboy

Lately I have been listening to Julian Casablancas.

People having been judging him for disembarking The Strokes but Julian’s album Phrazes for the Young is a great album.

Think some people say that his album sucks just because they are hurt about him starting his own project. Phrazes for the Young was released November 3, 2009 in the U.S. The album’s title is reference to Oscar Wilde’s ” Phrases and Philosophies for the Use of the Young.” Wilde was an Irish writer. Bomb It! A look into the world of graffiti
Mar 2nd, 2010 by jessy56

Bomb It is a documentary of Graffiti from its origins in Philadelphia and New York  to its evolution all around the world. In this documentary it talks about how the art of Graffiti is misunderstood and is exaggerated into this “great” crime that becomes the explanation of the metaphor the broken window.

Throughout the documentary many graffiti artists around the world are interviewed and asked why  they practice the art of graffiti, how society and the government deal with the art, and what  they think of them.

I feel that this documentary really shares the point of view of many graffiti artists and the reasons why they love to do graffiti.

He killed someone, so lets murder him?
Feb 13th, 2010 by SupahKillahSm00thie

The death penalty is perhaps one of the most controversial topics in America. Those who agree with the death penalty, feel that it serves as a just punishment, which not only makes the criminal reminisce about his/her amiss actions, but ultimately serves as a form that prevents crime.

However, how can society justify the murder of an individual? How can we decide which life has no worth or no more value? Ultimately, who are we to kill someone, even if they have done wrong?

Perhaps because I believe in redemption, I feel that the death penalty is wrong. We lose our morality, so that the law can prevail. In the midst of it all, we stand by an unjust sytem that punishes individuals, rather than a system that tries to better them.

Before lethal injections, Americans used to hang criminals and publicly showcase their death to prove to others that no one is above the law. The hangings eventually stopped because they were to horrific and barbaric, yet just because we don’t hang people, the fact that we still choose to murder them is wrong and unjust! We shouldn’t abide to these animalistic ways!

We must be able to reflect on how the corrections system of America is runned. Hopefully, someone will stand up and fight for the rights of prisoners. Often times we forget that they are human, and that some do feel a sense of remorse and regret for what they have done.
